A silent protector of the forests, monumental and weathered, this centuries-old beech tree carries a profound sadness upon its drooping branches. Nevertheless, it is alive and nurtures generations of younger trees, establishing a supportive bond that spans ages. The bark, crack after crack, transforms into a cosmos where lichens, fungi, insects, and birds find refuge and sustenance, even amidst the tree's decay.
The beech (Fagus sylvatica) is a tree that has been divinized; various votive altars consecrated to the deity Fago Deo can be found in the Pyrenees. And it is no wonder, for something unknown and powerful lives within the lushness of the beech forest, evoking ancient temples of nature. Its solemn presence forces us to look inward and perhaps connect with the folk legacy that binds us to it.
